The ICAO RSOOs Symposium was held at ICAO Headquarters, Montreal Canada from 25th to 28th October 2011. The symposium brought together all stakeholders that have an interest in the establishment and management of regional safety oversight organisations, including the Cooperative Development of Operational Safety and Continuing Airworthiness Programmes (COSCAPs). The Symposium was attended by participants from Contracting States, RSOOs, COSCAPs and international organisations.
The symposium was part of the implementation of Assembly Resolution A37-8, which directed the ICAO Council to promote the concept of regional cooperation for purposes of enhancing safety and safety oversight, including the establishment of Regional Safety Oversight Organisations (RSOOs).
The Agency was represented by the Executive Director, Mtesigwa O. Maugo and Manager Airworthiness Luke Kittony. The Executive Director participated as a panellist in one of the sessions under a topic ‘Establishment of a Funding Mechanism to Ensure the Sustainability of an RSOO’.
The establishment of EAC – CASSOA is acknowledged internationally in the aviation circles under ICAO and was often expressed as an example of a success story from East African Community in the Symposium.
